Usually not: Bruit in the carotid area does not mean stenosis. Usually the chance is restenosis in carotid endarterectomy side is low less than five percent if patch was used. The best non invasive test to confirm that there is no restenosis is to get a carotid duplex ultrasound.

Post op restenosis: While restenosis is possible, statistically, it is pretty unusual. Some folks get a condition called myointimal hyperplasia which is like an over aggressive healing process that looks for the first few follow up ultrasounds like restenosis but it usually burns itself out and regresses back towards normal in time. It is pretty easy to look for restenosis with a repeat duplex scan (ultrasound).
