Acute Pain: Acute pain may come on suddenly and caused by something specific. The quality of pain is sharp. Acute pain usually does not last longer than six months or so. It goes away when there is no longer an underlying cause for the pain. Causes of acute pain include: Surgery, broken bones, trauma, burns or cuts, labor and childbirth, dental work, acute appendicitis, etc.
