A member asked:

Is an endoscopic percutaneous discectomy to remove herniated np thereby disrupting integrity of disc a good ideafor someone in high impact sports?

May be: If the disc is large enough that you are having weakness and/or constant numbness/pain in your leg(s), a minimally invasive discectomy (microscopic or endoscopic) is typically a good option. Please consult your neurosurgeon.

Quite Possibly: If you are a surgical candidate (determined by a neurosurgeon with attention to specific radiologic findings), then yes, disc removal will help your impact sports training.

Depends: First, if the nucleus pulposus is herniated, the disc integrity is already compromised. Second, in most cases of disc herniation surgery is not needed. Third, if surgery is appropriate, the percutaneous discectomy is optimal for some, but not all, hnps
