Why is it important to avoid carbonated drinks after gastric sleeve surgery?

Expansion #1: First off the carbonation causes gaseous expansion of the stomach; this might be painful. Also the acidity of the soda at pH 2.0 has 100, 000 times the hydrogen ions of water at pH 7. This causes every enzyme system in the body to shut down. Means you can't burn fat, move sugar from blood to cell (diabetes), move cholesterol into cell (hi cholesterol) and many other problems.

To avoid bloating: Carbonated drinks have 3 cans of air in one can of liquid. With a sleeve, that air expands and makes you bloated. More of the air gets in the small bowel and you get bloated. No evidence that it stretches out the sleeve.
