Proscar (finasteride): The generic name of this medication is finesteride. It is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor which blocks the conversion of testosterone to dht. Dht is a driver of increased prostate growth. Use of this medication at 5mg per day can result in a reduction in prostate volume of up to 30% and a decrease in the growth rate of the prostate.
