What is the definition or description of: gay, lesbian and transgender health?

Specific Issues: Gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered (lgbt) health is an area of medicine addressing both the general and the unique healthcare needs of lgbt persons. Lgbt youth have an elevated risk of suicide as well as substance abuse. Lack of providers and fear of discrimination create barriers to accessing quality healthcare for lgbt adults. Lgbt individuals are becoming more visible in society.

Health is health!: Mental health for glbt people is the same as health for anyone --- the capacity to love, work and develop. Particular sexual interests or gender identification sometimes makes this more difficult because of negative social responses. These may challenge some glbt people but the basic ingredients of mental health remain the same for them as for everyone.
