Genetic disorder: Tuberous sclerosis is a group of two genetic disorders that affect the skin, brain/nervous system, kidneys, and heart, and cause tumors to grow. The diseases are named after a tuber- or root-shaped growth in the brain.

Neuro-cutaneous: Ts is a genetic disorder involving nerves and skin. The skin shows "ash leaf" areas of depigmentation, and the brain shows regions of tuberous growths and sclerotic thickening. Some may not have symptoms while others have epilepsy, retardation, autism, and tendency for brain tumors. There is now a drug available to help shrink the tumors that grow in the brain, kidney and on the face.
