What is the definition or description of: myocardial perfusion scan with exercise?

Stress test: This is a type of stress test which uses exercise to increase the heart rate and stress the heart and then a tracer molecule is injected into an IV which shows normal and abnormal blood flow in the heart. This is compared to images at rest to determine whether there has been a heart attack or if there are concerning blockages of the coronary arteries.

Cardiac blood supply: A cardiac perfusion scan measures the amount of blood supplied to your heart muscle. Radiotracers such as thallium or technetium sestamibi are injected intravenously and travel through blood to heart muscle. Two sets of images are made during rest and exercise are compared. Indications for this study include chest pain, previous heart attack, heart surgery and coronary artery disease.

MIBI, Thallium scan: Myocardial perfusion study refers to the use of radionuclide to evaluate the degree of blood flow (also called perfusion)in the arteries of the heart (coronaries). The injection of the radiotracer ( 3 different ones : mibi. Myoview, or thallium) is performed at rest, at peak stress ( treadmill) or after pharmacological intervention to help detecting coronary artery disease.

Cardiac Exam: Myocardial perfusion imaging looks at blood flow to the left ventricle. This is primarily accomplished using nuclear techniques such as pet or spect using radiotracers such as tl-201, tc-99m, or n-13 ammonia. When it is done with exercise, the myocardial perfusion scan shows blood flow during exercise, and usually compares that to perfusion at rest in order to evaluate for inducible ischemia.
