Schizophrenia: Schizophrenia is a primary psychotic condition characterized by at least one month of 2 or more of the following: delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech and/or behavior, and/or negative symptoms. It impairs life role functioning and must be present for at least 6 months. Disorganized type in general has the worst prognosis and includes prominent disorganization of speech, behavior & affect.

Subtype of Disorder: The disorganized type of schizophrenia is dominated by extremely disorganized speech, disorganized behavior, and flat or inappropriate affect (emotional feeling tone and mood). This set of symptoms occurs with other characteristic symptoms of schizophrenia.

Schizophrenia: Prognosis is worst if schizophrenia is of the disorganized type with delusions of persecution, also in schizophrenias that are resistant to treatment and chronic.
