What are the risks for an addiction to nicorette (nicotine gum)?

Like tobacco: The main reason people smoke, is that they're dependent on (addicted) to nicotine. Granted, some may have a habit to holding cigarettes, lighting cigarettes, etc; but the main reason people can't quit is that their body craves nicotine. So, one can become dependent to nicotine in any/all forms, whether from gum, skin patches or cigarettes. But nicotine gum is much less harmful than smoking.
