See below : There are a variety of causes of “smelly” urine. Urine is a combination of water and waste products and then most common cause of “pungent pee” is dehydration causing a dark/deep yellow colored urine. Other causes: various foods (e.g. asparagus, coffee), vitamins, supplements, and medications; urinary tract infection; and certain medical diseases. A urinalysis would be an appropriate next step.
