Probably not kidney…: Related. Is the lump tender/painful? May be an inflamed junction of the rib and cartilage (see picture) called costochondritis or u may have separated the junction with a resultant lump when it healed. Any history of injury to the area or bout of sever coughing? If tylenol (acetaminophen) or an NSAID doesn't relieve any discomfort u may have, see fp for exam. May need x-ray to further evaluate.
