Salicylic Acid: Over the counter benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid 2% wipes as well as retinol containing skin care products (roc makes over the counter ones) are good acne products to use.

Benzoyl Peroxide: In addition to eating a healthy diet, with little or no sugary foods, no dairy and lots of vegetables, benzoyl peroxide is probably the best otc product for most acne. Use a thin layer twice daily to the affected areas and moisturize if too drying. If too irritating, topical sal acid preparations can help, as can tea tree oil. After that, though, i'd see a dermatologist.

BPO: It seems that salicylic acid is the most popular ingredient in over the counter acne products, but benzoyl peroxide is probably a lot more effective. Avoid products with high percentages. 10% does not work better than 2.5% but is an awful lot more irritating.
