Phlebitis or infxn?: I am not sure if your wife is breastfeeding. Mastitis (infection) can occur and can be quite painful. Phlebitis (blood clot in the veins) and cause inflammation and thus pain. It is difficult to tell for sure what she has. If gentle warm massage and Motrin not helpful in 24-48 hours, i suggest seeing doc for an eval. Good luck.
