Lots of things: Anxiety, caffeine, cigarettes, and a variety of other foods/drinks/medications and environments can case your heart to race. The feelings are called palpitations and should be evaluated by your doctor.

Several things: Certainly anxiety and caffeine can cause this, but we also worry about certain heart rhythms that can also cause it. It can be something simple like premature ventricular beats, or other more important heart rhythm problems. This can be evaluated by your doctor, usually by ordering tests like an event monitor, which is worn for up to a month, and can record when you feel the racing.
