Thyroid: A thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) blood test is used to check for thyroid gland problems. Tsh is produced when the hypothalamus releases a substance called thyrotropin-releasing hormone (trh). Trh then triggers the pituitary gland to release tsh.
