Many possible causes: Many conditions can stop your periods - often polycystic ovarian sydrome (pcos), also thyroid or prolactin hormone problems, aging of the ovary (diminished ovarian reserve), or low hormone levels (hypogonadism) from heavy exercise, eating disorders, or stress. Some women have primary ovarian insufficiency where the ovaries don't work normally. See a reproductive endocrinology (rei) md for testing.
