Legal requirements: Because many pain medications (e.g. Morphine, oxycodone) & other meds like Xanax (alprazolam) can be addictive & abused, the drug enforcement administration has made it mandatory that these prescriptions only be submitted with an original ink signature. Phone calls to the pharmacy and faxes can be counterfeited. Also, it is important to make sure these meds are working & not causing serious side effects.

Taking too many?: Usually, most patients are given an adequate supply of their medication to last until the next appointment with his or her doctor. It is unfortunately not uncommon for a person to take too much of certain medicines, especially pain medication also known as opiates, and then they run out of their medication too quickly and before their next appointment. You may need to talk to your dr. About this.
