Probably, but: For adults, periodic constipation, which resolve with simple means, is likely normal. However, regular bm's or a consistent pattern is the key to 'normality'. Any change in pattern in adults must be checked out. Colon cancer, both sexes, is the most common killer, the easiest to detect in a precancerous state, the easiest to cure--if caught early. Colonoscopy--if it's time, get it done!

Probably: When a toddler goes several days between stools and there is pain involved, it's generally true constipation. When constipation begins when formula is introduced, it's often an allergy to milk or soy causing inflammation in the intestines and constipation. Sometimes constipation is the only symptom.
