Yes: Gerd or "reflux" is the result of the upper gastoesophageal sphincter being unable to close appropriately. Therefore, the gastric contents, which are acidic, reflux into the lower esophagus, causing: burning, burping, hoarseness, epigastric pain and of course nausea.
