Many causes: There are so many causes of a dull pain in the lower left abdomen in a 40 year old female. Common ones include cysts on the ovary, diverticulitis, pelvic inflammatory disease and other sexually transmitted diseases, and kidney stones (in the ureter). There are many more. Best to get evaluated by a gynecologist.
