Hand cut, laceration: A hand cut is a break in the skin in the hand. The hand is the part of the body past the wrist creases but includes the wrist bones or carpus, the metacarpal region or the palm and the fingers and thumb. Hand cuts or lacerations if deep to the deep dermis can involve nerves, blood vessels , tendons, muscles and joints. The hand has a very densely packed vital anatomy so a hand cut is never simple.
