Topical antibiotic: A topical antibiotic is a gel or paste used to prevent infections on the skin. They are often applied to scrapes, cuts, and insect bites. Any mildly open area may be a site that may be treated with a topical antibiotic. Typically there are three or four antibiotics that are contained within the gel or paste to provide the best coverage to prevent infection.
