Biopsy with intent!: An excisional biopsy is a biopsy where the lesion is also excised or removed. When people here the word biopsy, they usually think that just a small sampling of the lesion will be obtained. However, there are times when its more appropriate to remove the whole lesion and send it to pathology. This would be an excisional biopsy.
