Corneal inflammation: Keratitis is the word used to describe inflammation of the cornea. Keratitis can be related to infection or inflammation. So the treatment of keratitis relates to the actual cause of the condition. The diagnosis of keratitis is made at the slit lamp, and signs can include areas of corneal staining with Fluorescein or corneal swelling.

Corneal Inflammation: Keratitis is a general term for inflammation of the cornea, the outermost layer of the eye. Inflammation can involve the outer, middle, inner, or any combination of these layers. The inflammation can also be punctate (or point-like) or diffuse. Fortunately, most cases of keratitis will improve well with the use of lubrication and anti-inlammatory eye medications by your ophthalmologist.

Corneal Inflammation: Inflammatory changes in one or both corneas (the most anterior layer of the eye). Many varieties with different causes exist. Many are treated with a combination of anti-inflammatory eye drops and/or systemic anti-inflammatory medications. For example, superficial punctate keratitis (spk) is a surface change caused usually by significant eye dryness or exposure and may improve with lubrication.

Keratitis is caused by trauma (contact lens wear, dry eyes), degeneration, and infection. Contact lens wear is the most important risk factor for infectious keratitis. Herpes is a common cause of keratitis. Keratitis can be sight threatening. Keratitis causes redness and pain.
