A human virus.: The epstein–barr virus (ebv) is a virus in the herpesvirus family and is one of the most common viruses in humans. Ebv is best known as the cause of infectious mononucleosis, and infection with ebv occurs by the oral transfer of saliva and/or genital secretions, hence the moniker "the kissing disease". In the us, about 90 to 95 percent of all adults have evidence of previous infection.

EBV: Epstein-barr virus, frequently referred to as ebv, is a member of the herpesvirus family and one of the most common human viruses. Most people become infected with ebv sometime during their lives. When infection with ebv occurs during adolescence or young adulthood, it causes infectious mononucleosis 35-50% of the time. Ebv also establishes a lifelong dormant infection in some cells of the body.
