Is it safe to take mercaptopurine while pregnant?

No: This is a category d drug. This means that harm has been shown or suggested in a human fetus. There may be times that a category d drug is still neccessary in pregnancy if the risks to mom's health without it is worse than potential risk to the fetus. A healthy fetus is dependent on a healthy mom! the answer must be between the patient and her physcian.
