A member asked:

How do you know if you're carrying an active staph infection?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Culture: First you have to have signs and symptoms suggestive of an infection ( fever, chills, elevated white count, abscess, etc...), then a culture of blood or material from suspected site of infection ( i.E pus) and identify the bacteria, the material obtained for culture form a wound should be from deep inside the wound, superficial wound culture can be deceiving.
