See a Dermatologist!: For advice about hydroquinone or other skin lightening prescription medications. Otc products are often so weak as to not provide much help, if at all, but they won't hurt (anything but your pocketbook). Erythromycin is an antibiotic that will provide no help whatsoever to pigmentation, but may reduce acne. See your dermatologist for specific advice; ask about peels as well.

Seek advise: Seek advise from a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Skin lightening agents can be helpful (hydroquinone/acid peels) and some lasers are very helpful at improving the quality of damaged skin. Erythromyicin will not lighten discoloration.
