Age spots.: Age spots are lentigos, or sun-stimulated collections of pigment cells. Some of these may be keratoses, or actinic lesions, and each has slight differences, sunscreen helps prevent new ones from forming, and will reduce the visibility of existing ones, but will not eliminate them. But it's still a good idea to use a sunscreen to prevent or reduce new ones!

Not that easy: If you truly want the age spots/discoloration to fade (never disappear) you should seek the help of a plastic surgeon or dermatologist. The treatments will range from topical use of skin lightening agents (hydroquinone) to laser treatments (photo facial/fraxel/etc). Also an experienced aesthetician can be quite helpful.
