Ongoing treatment: Most acute leukemias are treated with IV chemotherapy. Some chronic leukemias are treated with oral medication (CML) or sometimes observation alone (cll). If you are receiving IV chemo, you may lose your hair, feel tired, and be at risk for infections due to low blood counts. You will need to change your diet and activities to decrease risk of infection. Ask your doctor.

See below...: Once the diagnosis of leukemia is confirmed, you have to be taken care of by a hematologist/oncologist who will coordinate proper treatment and management of your disease. As a general rule, because your immunity may be decreased as a consequence of chemotherapy or due to the leukemia itself, you have to avoid exposure to sources of infections (sick people, unsanitary environment, etc.).
