Yes: Melasma is a common skin disorder, especially in women with darker skin tones. It is associated with the female hormones, estrogen and Progesterone and is common in pregnant women, and in those taking birth control pills or hormone replacement therapy during menopause. Treatments are available but often the problem will resolve spontaneously after delivery or discontinuing hormone therapy.

Possible: The classic "mask of pregnancy" (melasma) will occur on the face during pregnancy. However, if you have other parts of your body with dark spots you should have this examined by a dermatologist.
