DTs: The sooner the better as withdrawl from alcohol for an addict can become a medical emergency very rapidly. The withdrawls are called dts and can be so severe as to cause seizures and death. Every addict who wants to stop alcohol should do so under a supervised situation in a drug rehab or under a doctors care.

Go to rehab: Check with your local medical clinic or hospital if they have a program to get clean from alcohol. Usually takes several days to one week. Patients receive tranquilizers and anticonvulsants while not drinking alcohol to prevent seizures, delirium or neurological complications.
