It could: People who develop "behavioral" addictions such as internet are usually more prone to become addicted to other behaviors such as drug and alcohol or gambling even. Their brains get a "high" from the behavior, if one "high" is removed their brain looks for another "high" to replace it. Its called cross addiction.
