Uvula: The uvula is the small dangling tissue in the back of your throat. It is the posterior portion of the soft palate and it functions to occlude the nasopharynx for purposes of swallowing and phonation. Basically it keeps swallowed solids, and liquids as well as air from the lungs from going into the back of the nose.
