In some cases: While wilms' tumor usually occurs sporadically, there are common genes/gene mutations that have been discovered in patients with wilms' tumor. There is also increased incidence in association with certain conditions, such as hemihypertrophy and beckwith-wideman syndrome (omphalocele, macroglossia, organomegaly). This suggests a genetic link in some patients.
