What happens to the heart with a myocardial infarction?

Muscle damage: If a strip of heart muscle is supplied by an artery that is blocked, it dies. That is what a heart attack is. The technical term is myocardial ( which means heart muscle ) infarction ( which means death).

Variable: Some amount of muscle died. If small amount, local scar can form. If huge amount , death may prevail. In the mid range some folks need medication, or angioplasty or surgery to sustain or enhance life.
