A member asked:

What must the someone do in advance of an elective cardioversion?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Follow instructions: Prior to an elective cardioversion (for af) your md will have you take an anticoagulant and possibly an antiarrhythmic med. If you are taking coumadin, (warfarin) your md will want to make sure your INR is above 2.0 for at least 3 weeks. Eat nothing after midnight and take all meds as prescribed with a sip of water the morning of the procedure. You should take an anticoagulant for at least another month.
