Multiple: There are typically 2 main coronary arteries in the heart. The average catheterization will require 2 catheters of different shapes to reach each coronary artery. Depending on the anatomy, a range of 10 or 15 catheters are available from which 2 are chosen. If the patient has had bypass surgery, additional catheters may be required.
