Pinworm : Pinworm is another name for enterobius vermicularis. It lives in the large intestine. Pin worms are visible without magnification. They look like little white worms. The female is about the length of staple and the male is smaller. During sleep female pinworms travel from the large intestine to lay their eggs around the anus. Often a person with pinworm doesn’t have any symptoms. There can be itching around the anus or vagina and in more severe cases there can be problems sleeping, sense of restlessness, abdominal discomfort and drop in appetite. The easiest way to diagnose pinworm is using an adhesive tape from the doctor’s office. Either the first thing in the morning or in the middle of the night, you apply the tape to your anus. Egg and sometimes worms will adhere to the tape which is then brought back to the doctor. The tape is microscopic evaluated to identify the worms.

Not all itch is PW: Peoples itching from PW comes from a dermatitis around the anus.It is triggered by glue like material the eggs are laid in. The itch response is not specific to PW. If you have a mild yeast infection, food reactions, group A strep, all could cause identical itching. Your doc can get a PW prep done or just treat you as PW, but if treatment fails as it often does, it may be something else
