If : If a patient has never had sexual intercourse, other causes of late menstrual periods can be hormonal fluctuations, which can be caused by stress on the body, or by weight changes (too high or too low). If a patient continued to have absence of periods, then obtaining a gynecological evaluation would be reasonable. If there is any suspicion of pregnancy then of course a urine pregnancy test would be indicated.
