Hello. : Hello. I can't diagnose your problem. Peptobismal can turn your stool very dark or black. On the other hand, if stool is black and sticky with a bad odor; this could be gastrointestinal bleeding. Your doctor can perform a simple test to determine if the dark stools are due to blood and/ or peptobismal. If there is blood in the stool, the cause would be to be worked up.
