Hello. : Hello. I can't diagnose your problem. Peptobismal can turn your stool very dark or black. On the other hand, if stool is black and sticky with a bad odor; this could be gastrointestinal bleeding. Your doctor can perform a simple test to determine if the dark stools are due to blood and/ or peptobismal. If there is blood in the stool, the cause would be to be worked up.

Saturday night I began to feel stomach pain with diareah. I drank pepto bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) once that night and since then I have black stool. It is now Tuesday.
Ive been having dark brown, but not black, stool the past couple weeks with sometimes visible mucus on it. I dont take any iron supplements or pepto bismol. I do suffer from chronic constipation. Is this a cause for concern?
I get spasms from IBS causing constipation. Bentyl (dicyclomine) stops that allowing me to poop but it makes me very irritable. Will Pepto Bismol work instead?
