Could someone with bulimia get better?

Yes: Bulimia has a better success rate that anorexia. Why is not known. Both are difficult to treat. There seems to be a mixture of possible causes including sexual and other trauma, social or peer pressure and gentic predisposition. Even a casual comment about weight to a vulnerable child or young person. Family support, counseling and medication all play a role in effective treatment of bulimia.

Yes: Bulimia is an eating disorder that can be successfully treated when the person is able to overcome her guilt and shame and, consult a professional. You may find a good referral by asking your doctor. It is also very helpful to get a complete medical work-up done before consulting a mental health professional.
