Ovulation tests: A regular predictable menstrual cycle is a very good sign of ovulation. Over the counter ovulation kits are also very good at detecting ovulation. You may also monitor your temperature (basal body temperature), but this method is not as reliable. Your physician may also order hormone levels during a particular time of the menstrual cycle. The hormone value will reflect if ovulation happened.

Further tests: Pain in the ovaries, vaginal secretions, and regular cycles. Aside from basal body temperature charts, ovulation prediction kits are helpful. They indicate a surge about 24-36 hours before ovulation.
