Is it possible to treat lung cancer with implantable radioactive pellets?

Yes: It is possible however it is most commonly used in combination with a wedge resection. There are larger experiences outside the USA using high dose rate brachytherapy for definitive treatment of small lung tumors, however; here in the USA there has been a greater movement towards stereotactic body radiation therapy because it is a noninvasive technique and results are very good.

Not practical: Virtually no one does this to treat lung cancer for cure. With bronchial temporary implants the bronchus can be opened to help breath better but not really to treat and cure a patient. External beam radiation with standard 6 to 7 week course of therapy or radiosurgery done over 3 days of treatment have been the standard of care.
