A member asked:

Will phototherapy cause side effects for a two and a half year old ?

Possibly: Not because of any direct effect of phototherapy. In that age child, phototherapy has not been used in any studies i could find. Trying to use phototherapy on a child that age i believe, would likely be ineffective and possibly harmful. Harmful because they are developmentally too young to participate in or understand what is happening and could become afraid and traumatized unnecessarily.

Unknown: In addition to thinking about side effects, it is important to ask what evidence supports the use of phototherapy in a 2.5 year old and for what condition. Discuss this plan with your pediatrician.
