It : It sounds as though you are having a problem with your tmjs (temporo-mandibular joints). Have you had any recent trauma? Do you grind or clench your teeth? Any missing molars? There can be several causes for this but an examination by your dentist and/or an oral surgeon would be the best way to identify the problem. In the mean time, may i suggest a soft diet, no continuous chewing like with gum, no wide bites like with a large sandwich, warms packs to the affected area, and take anti-inflamatories such as Motrin or advil (ibuprofen).

Probable TMJ: Your TMJ (jaw joint near the ear) may be dislocating when you are chewing. A dentist that treats TMJ with functional orthopedic appliances generally can best determine the extent of the problem and work with corrective treatment.
