Depends on symptoms: Depending on the size, symptoms and location, treatment can include anything from observation to an open craniotomy (opening up the head to remove the clot from where is sits just under the skull).

Surgery: For the classic large epidural hematoma from an arterial bleed, the treatment is surgery urgently. This involves a craniotomy (opening the skull), evacuation of the blood clot and obliteration of the bleeding vessel. When done rapidly, outcomes are very good.
