As : As you age, changes in your hormone levels can cause issues that can make sex uncomfortable. Luckily, they're treatable! here are a few tips below. - vaginal dryness: as you age, your estrogen levels decrease which can lead to vaginal dryness. Lubricants can help - don't be afraid to explore different kinds. Many of the newer, water-based ones can provide a silky smooth feel as opposed to the sticky old-fashioned medical types. - thinning vaginal walls: also a result of decreased estrogen. Talk to your ob/gyne. They may be able to prescribe a topical estrogen cream or other medication to help thicken vaginal walls and make sex more comfortable. - foreplay: make him work for it. As you age, it can take a little longer to become aroused, so enjoy each other for a while first - the more aroused you are, the more enjoyable the sex will be. The good news: your vagina doesn't shrivel up or shrink. You are just fine. And a tip for all women: urinate immediately after sex. This helps to wash out any bacteria that could have been pushed into your urethra while having sex, thus avoiding a urinary tract infection. And practice safe sex. Sexually transmitted diseases do not discriminate based on age.

Dyspareunia: Dr. McMullen had some excellent tips. To add, after long periods of non-use the diameter of the vagina can constrict a bit. One possible solution to assist are vaginal dilators. They can be purchased on Amazon and are used to gently bring back the vaginal diameter and complience. Very important that you don't allow pain to be associated with intercourse as this can bring on a whole new pain.
