Unlikely: Bacteria do and dehydration by itself does not cause utis. Dehydration can predispose to utis, or prolong recovery, because long intervals between urination give bacteria, which may have reached the bladder, longer time to multiply before being eliminated. Hydration helps with recovery from urinary infections and prostatitis.

Possibly: It definitely can lead to bladder infections. If urine stays in the bladder for too long, bacteria can start to grow. It is better to keep urine flowing through the system to keep bacteria levels down. Most people should urinate at least 4 times per day. If your urine is dark yellow, or brown, that is not good.
